Inheriting the promise
Scripture Focus :
Hebrews 6:12
That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.
It's important that we understand that our faith in Jesus Christ brings us into the promise God made to Abraham. The scripture made us to understand in Galatians 3:16 that "The promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed. Scripture does not say "and to seeds," meaning many people, but "and to your seed," meaning one person, who is Christ. So Christ is the one to whom the promise was to be fulfilled.
The promise is all about the blessing through the Spirit. God made an oath in His name to bless Abraham and His seed which is Christ. God made this promise so that anyone who would believes in Christ will come under this blessing. Galatians 3:14, here is what it says- He redeemed us in order that the blessing given to Abraham might come to the Gentiles through Christ Jesus, so that by faith we might receive the promise of the Spirit. We discover that through faith in Jesus Christ, we become part of the blessing God made to Abraham.
This is the way you should begin to see yourself, like a blessed person. Whether or not you can feel it, you are a carrier of this promised blessing. If God made an oath to Abraham and fulfilled it in Christ, then your faith isn't in vain. Another thing I want to let you understand is that your faith will be proven by patience. It will be tested by patience. Abraham needed to be patient to receive Isaac, therefore it's important that we supplement our faith with patience to fully manifest our inherited promise in Christ.
